Fred’s Dibnahs trip to London for ‘the gong’A Capital Affair.
To stand on the corner of Bird Cage Walk and Parliament Square in the rush hour and witness the passing of an Aveling & Porter convertible steam tractor and living van is one thing, to hear the cry “Rook it’s Fled Dribner” exclaimed in unison by an exited group of tourists from the orient, is entirely something else. Both these happenings will not be quickly forgotten by those fortunate enough to have been on hand to witness them.
Fred Dibnah - Looking back.Fred was a Red Rose man through and through. But he could so easily have been born a White Rose man! By way of explanation for those domiciled on the other side of the ‘English Alps’, we should point out that there is a strong Dibnah connection to savour as Fred’s father, Frank Dibnah, was born in Hull, East Yorkshire. It was Frank’s father, Alfred (Fred’s grandfather), who first took the Dibnah name over the Pennines. Like a good many in those days, he had to travel from his native home in order to find work.
